  Counting Time..what your opinion?

  when i was a dub i use to get so mad trying to get in the national average of 10 hours a month.

  i would work during the week then get 2 - 2.5 hours on sat for maybe 8 - 10 hours a month.

  others like the elders would always be above that average and a lot of the time some of these elders would skip out on vacation or who knows what on half of the saturdays.

  Actually in answer to Michael's comment....servants or elders who conduct the congregation bookstudy or watchtower study can count that time. It's all BS of course, because timecounting was NOT done in the first century. It is a bureaucratic policy to help monitor/police the rank and file.

  Great to see Dave (Seven006) in this post. Even though I have posted sporacdically in my years here, I have always enjoyed Dave's posts. I want to give props also to LDH (Lisa), JT, Big Boi, TeeJay, Minimus, Maximus (wished the big guy posted more, but definitely understand him taking a very long sabbitical), AlanF, Stinkypantz, Leander, etc.

  one who posted that greatly influenced me was "robbie".. .

  anyone else here read on that board or know any history about it, or maybe know "robbie"?

  What Proof Is there that Jehovah Selected them in 1918?

  the watchtower bases its authority on the claim jehovah made an inspection of christianity around the years 1918/1919 and selected the bible students (now jehovah's witnesses).

  ok....but other than making this claim (over and over and over again!

  ) what proof does the wt present that they were indeed selected?

  I used to blindly accept this bs as well. They claim that they were selected based on:

  Rutherford & corporation officers were freed from prison

  Preaching work supposedly took off from there

  Growth

  Really shallow reasons if you ask me. Nothing visible to prove that they were the chosen ones. They didn't adopt the whole JW thing until the 1930s, the preaching work really didn't kick into high gear until the late 40s/50s (credit Knorr's marketing for that), and Rutherford and the corporation officers first few activities after being released from prison were to interpret their poorly attended conventions in the early 1920s to being "seven trumpet blasts" from Revelation.

  with so many "responsibilities" given to the witnesses by the "faithful and discreet slave", there is little time for them to do anything these days except sleep - and that is when they're not out preaching at unearthly hours in the morning.. .

  the enormous pressure to perform, and to be under the watch of the elders to make sure you perform, is a draining experience.. .

  a book i have on sociology says this regarding jehovah's witnesses, when discussing sects, that "they require intensive commitments and demonstrations of belief by members.

• Breakfast/daytext/table overseer.

When I was at a GB table it was kinda cool because they didn't care what I did. When I wasn't at a GB table, I'd have some asshole trying to quiz me on an obscure point that he discovered in the insight book. For breakfast, the food SUCKED. There was evidently some GB members that loved prunes and granola because we had that shit more often than not at Brooklyn, while cats at the farm and patterson were having pancakes and french toast......you know a REAL breakfast. I was once counseled for not appreciating spiritual things when I brought a McDonald's breakfast to the table.

• Monday night WT study

Absolute waste of time. However, one of my roommates was a techie-wizard and was able to hook things up so that we could get the program on our television set. We could watch it from our room and feel that we didn't miss a beat.

• Tuesdays Bookstudy at one of the Local Cong.

Another waste. Traveling an hour to an hour and a half for an hour study. ASSININE.

• Wednesday evening fieldservice

Never attempted this.

• Thursdays parts on the service meeting

I actually liked these, because I usually was assigned good parts.

• Fridays "family evening" / evening fieldservice

You are basically at the mercy of old-ass Bethelites who have no since of entertainment and leisure. It was a giant step for African-Americans one year, when they had a group of black brothers sing a Boys II Men tune. Other than that, the evening was a complete waste of time, energy and intentions.

• Saturdays Quick Build Hall construction assistance

Never got involved in this.

• SUNDAYS FIELD SERVICE/MEETING/LATE SUPPER

Absolutely sucked, because for brothers, Sundays was the only day that you didn't have to work and you STILL couldn't sleep in.

• Daily sisters housekeeping/snooping through your possessions

I had some cool housekeepers for the most part. But there were some horror stories with others.

• Car pools

I carpooled with "company men" who basically talked "shop" the whole time. BORING.

• Allowance day

Was okay except for those months where you basically transported you money to accounting to pay for that high phone bill.

• Laundry day / missing clothing / badly sewed clothing

Didn't really dig having numbers on all my clothes, but it saved me time from having to wash them all the time.

• Boring library

I enjoyed the library and wished I could have extracted a couple jewels from there (i.e. - Branch Book)

• farm duty !!! stalls vs $#IT vs gardening

Never heard of this. I was a Brooklynite.

• Inking the press!

Never.

• Digging/carpentry/bricklaying/box packing/loading

Nope.

• Nasty crotch grabbin roomies

Didn't have to worry about this. I made sure I roomed with cats that I knew after my first 6 months or so there.

• Not gettin sum..except nasty looks from roomies

Wasn't a problem at the time.

• Lousy infermary (basic asprin cures all !!!)

Infirmary was a fuckin' joke. And don't be a newbie and get injured playing basketball. You get all of these weird, judgmental looks and sneers.

Only the ones trying to climb the ladder would do this. The ones who owned the ladder had nothing to prove.

They weren't that bad and were really kinda down-to-earth for the most part. I had no problem with them.

Nope.

Nope.

• Parking attendant work

Nope.

• Apostate lookout/Security work (it does exist guys !)

When I was a night-watchman, this would come up from time to time.

INSIPID. Like we were cattle of something. I would have preferred the cowbell.
